Designed & manufactured in Italy, the Quick Dylan DH4 windlass is a state-of-the-art vertical anchor winch suitable for boats from 14-20m (46-66ft).   As a vertical windlass, its motor & gearbox must be installed inside the vessel's anchor well/storage locker.  It occupies less space on the deck as a result, however your vessel's anchor well must have enough space to allow this.

Quick windlasses are equipped (as standard) with exclusive solutions and devices to ensure safety and functionality in all conditions. Each component has been designed in the company’s Italian engineering laboratories.

The Dylan is available in the following options:

  • 12V or 24V
  • with or without a gypsy drum
  • 1700W or 2000W motor power
    • 1700W is usually suitable for boats 14-18m (46-59ft), whereas
    • 2000W is usually suitable for boats 15-20m (49-66ft)
  • with a 10mm or 12mm gypsy

  • Vertical windlass
  • Base made of anodised aluminium in hard oxide

Do I need a drum?

The drum is a capstan which is fitted above the gypsy.  Some sailors use it for tasks like hauling rope for sails, dinghies, or craypots.  A Dylan DH4 winch does not need a drum to haul the anchor up or down because the gypsy does that.  Therefore, unless you have a specific use for a drum (like the previous examples), you probably do not need one.

How do I calculate what motor power I need?

Please see the DC Electric Motor Power image in the product images section for the factors to consider when selecting which motor power would best suit your vessel, anchor and anchor rode combination.

Do I need a 10mm or 12mm Gypsy?

This depends on whether your chain size is 10mm or 12/13mm.

Each gypsy option supplied with the DH4 can support anchor rode with both calibrated short link chain and spliced 3-strand rope.  This is due to the special notching fitted internally, which allows the rope to slide easily.

Manual Free-Fall Device

This allows the manual release of the gypsy clutch, resulting in the chain falling faster.

Protection from Water

  • The DH4 motor includes a flexible PVC gasket which should be installed on the flange of the below-deck gearbox.  This gasket is well suited to any surface and effectively protects the gearbox against water infiltration without further intervention being required.
  • The 1700W motor has a watertight cover rated to IP67 standard, with the 2000W model's cover being rated to IP66 standard.
  • The casing is made of composite material, with gaskets and sealed cable outlets for electric cables.  As well as preventing infiltration of water or other liquids, it also delivers high impact resistance and ease of installation.

Metals used in the Base

  • AISI 316-grade stainless steel:
    • The main material used in most of the winches and windlasses manufactured by Quick.  In the Dylan DH4 windlass, stainless steel has been used for the gypsy & hawse pipe, and for the external parts using sheet metal moulding.
  • Anodized aluminium in hard oxide:
    • In the Dylan DH4, this has been used for the base due to its strength and resistance combined with light weight.  The hard oxide used by Quick is approximately 50 microns thick, compared to standard thickness of just 20 microns.
